Beer Near

Also known as: BN

Trail Terms

Beer Near (marked as BN on trail) is a trail marking that indicates a beer check is approaching, typically within a quarter mile or so. It gives hashers a morale boost and lets the pack know that cold beer is just ahead.

How It Works

  • The hare places BN marks on trail as the route nears a beer check
  • Multiple BN marks may appear in sequence as the pack gets closer
  • The exact distance varies by kennel and hare, but generally means less than a half mile to beer

Variations

  • SN (Shot Near) — shots or liquor ahead instead of beer
  • WN (Wine Near) — wine is waiting ahead
  • LN (Liquor Near) — liquor check ahead
  • Beer Check — the destination BN is pointing to
  • On-On — the call to keep following trail to the beer
