DFL

Also known as: Dead F***ing Last

People & Roles

DFL stands for Dead F***ing Last and refers to the last hasher to finish the trail. Like the FRB at the front, the DFL is recognized during circle — sometimes with honor, sometimes with shame, always with a down-down.

Cultural Context

Hashing is officially non-competitive, so the DFL isn’t a “loser” — they’re simply the hasher who got the most value out of trail. Whether they were lost, slow, or just enjoying the shiggy, they finished, and that’s what counts.

The DFL and the Fishhook

The DFL plays a special role at fishhook marks. When the FRB reaches a fishhook, they must run two drinks back to the DFL and they share them together — one of hashing’s built-in mechanisms for keeping the pack connected.

  • FRB — the opposite end of the pack
  • FBI — first female to finish
  • SCB — another back-of-pack archetype
  • Fishhook — trail mark that brings FRB and DFL together
  • Down-Down — the DFL’s reward at circle
