On-After

Also known as: On-On-On, Apres

Culture & Traditions

The on-after (also called On-On-On or Apres) is the social gathering that follows the circle. While the circle is structured, the on-after is unstructured social time.

Typical Activities

  • Eating (often provided by the hare or at a nearby restaurant)
  • Continued drinking
  • Storytelling and rehashing the trail
  • Socializing with visitors and new friends
  • Planning future hashes

Location

  • At the hash end location (if outdoors with refreshments)
  • A nearby pub or restaurant
  • The hare’s home (for smaller hashes)
  • Sometimes multiple locations if the group splinters

Etiquette

  • On-after attendance is optional but encouraged
  • It’s the best time to talk with hashers you didn’t meet on trail
  • Visitors especially should attend to meet the kennel
  • Thank the hare for their effort
  • Circle — the formal gathering before on-after
  • Hare — usually responsible for organizing food
